Security Guide

Burtonsafes Products

We supply one of the most extensive ranges of safes available in the UK. Please find below advice and information on safes and the appropriate testings and accreditations.

Warranty

Burton Safes offer a 3 year warranty in respect of materials and workmanship.

Please note that Keyguard Security products carry a 1 year warranty.

Cash ratings

A cash rating refers to how much your insurance company will underwrite the contents of your safe for. If the rating is £1,000 then the safe is suitable for storing up to £1,000 in cash or ten times this sum in jewellery and other valuables i.e £10,000 in jewellery.

Cash ratings can be used as a general guide to the security level of your safe. The higher the cash rating, the higher the security level of your safe is and therefore the more you can safely keep inside it.

Cash ratings quoted are a guide only and assume correct installation. Individual insurance companies rating may vary. Higher or lower figures may be applied. If it is important you should check with your insurance company before you purchase a safe.

European Standards

Your insurance company may request that you get a European Graded safe, rather than specify a cash rating.

European testing standards apply to security safes of a significant construction. To obtain these standards safes must be rigorously tested by independent test houses within Europe. Safes are graded on a score that is achieved depending on what tools were used and how long it took to gain partial and full access. All of our high security safes are tested and certified to EN 1143-1 by reputable testing houses. Below is a list of the standards that our safes are tested to and their equivalent cash ratings as agreed by the insurance industry.

EN 14450 S2                £ 4,000 Cash Rating

EN 1143 -1 Grade 0      £ 6,000 Cash Rating

EN 1143 -1 Grade 1      £ 10,000 Cash Rating

EN 1143 -1 Grade 2     £ 17,500 Cash Rating

EN 1143 -1 Grade 3     £ 35,000 Cash Rating

EN 1143 -1 Grade 4     £ 60,000 Cash Rating

EN 1143 -1 Grade 5     £ 100,000 Cash Rating

Testing

Many of our safes are independently attack tested under the schemes highlighted below. Burton Safes believe that this offers proven security to customers.

 ACCREDITATIONS

ECB.S

Our high security safes are tested to European standards (EN 1143-1) by some of the leading testing houses in Europe. These standards are based on attack testing which simulate modern burglary techniques.

Sold Secure

Sold Secure is a certification scheme, based on attack testing, set up by the Police with the help of the Home Office. It is administered by the Master Locksmiths Association, which works closely with Police and insurance companies.

Fire Safes

Our Fire Safes are tested by the Swedish National Testing & Research Institute. They have one of the most modern and advanced laboratories in Europe and are widely recognised as being leaders in their field. The tests carried out here are according to the Nordtest NT FIRE 017 & the European standard EN 1047-1.
